Funny, I never had any particular interest in motorcycles while growing up. This phase must have completely passed me by. So why did I start this blog and what's it about then? Well, I thought I'd share my recent experiences, not that I think they are particularly unique, and tell you about how I got into all this.
I was commuting into London on the Underground, squashed into a tight, hot space with so many others, when I just felt there must be a better way. I looked into getting a scooter, but so many were simply so expensive, especially as I had never been on a scooter before (not even on holiday) and didn't want to dish out a lot of money on something I may never like. Funnily enough, when I mentioned my intention to my husband, he said to just go for it, which gave me that last little push I needed to make the investment. After researching things, I bought my first little 50cc sports scooter from Direct Bikes in bright lemon yellow. My thought was that I'm sure to be seen on this very noticeable colour. The price was the main motivating factor, but I loved the scooter from the moment it arrived in a big crate. The anticipation built as we struggled to get the crate open. One of the reasons for the low price is that you have to register the scooter yourself with the DVLA, then get a number plate made once the number is assigned. Takes a bit of doing, but not too onerous. Riding the scooter was terrific fun and really cut down my commuting time. I felt much more confident on it than I had on my pedal bike on the few occasions I had ridden it to work in the past. Visions of me scooting along an Italian coast played through my mind as I cruised down the central London streets. It was just the start of things to come ...
